Summary:
CarBuyer.com.au was dropping today.
It was on the official auDA Drop List, and listed on Backorder.com.au (a domain watching website) and DropCatcher.com.au (not capable of catching any domain name that Drop.com.au catches because it is NOT an auDA Registrar).
The domain CarBuyer.com.au was NOT listed on Drop.com.au with around 1 hour to go of the auction – as Drop is a privately owned monopoly-auction that auDA has permitted to be the judge, jury and executioner of WHO has access to purchase expired and deleted Australian domain names since November 2020.
We ran a LIVE TEST during the last hour of CarBuyer.com.au dropping today, and we placed a bid on DropCatcher.com.au to try and grab the domain name. Of course, it was impossible and Drop.com.au WON the expired domain name CarBuyer.com.au on their monopoly-auction-platform, even though the domain WAS NOT PUBLICLY LISTED on their platform with around 1-hour left to go of the auction.
This has all happened recently before at ‘Drop.com.au’ with the ‘UBER.com.au’ domain name.
Detailed Time Line:
- Around 1-hour before the auction ended on Drop.com.au – the domain “CarBuyer.com.au” did not appear on the drop list, even when searching for the word “car” (as shown in the below screenshot).

Meanwhile, we placed a bid on DropCatcher.com.au (knowing we could not beat Drop‘s Registry-connected monopoly platform)

DropCatcher did NOT win the domain name, as it can’t compete with the Drop.com.au auDA-endorsed monopoly-auction platform.
As shown below, around one-hour before the domain dropped, it was still officially ‘pending purge’ at the ‘registry’, but nowhere to be seen on ‘Drop.com.au‘.
