Drop.com.au invent “Reserve Prices” on expired domains.

We’ve had multiple reports that the auDA-endorsed monopoly-domain-auction (Drop.com.au) has been placing massive “You have NOT MET RESERVE” notices on premium domain names once a domain name receives a bid over $100.

How can an expiring domain auction place a RESERVE price on an expired domain name that costs them the wholesale price of around $10?

When the bidder above placed a bid for $250 recently, they got the above notice.

It appears this is a fear-marketing technique to get the bidder to panic and then pay $500 instead, incase they “don’t make reserve price”.

The trick is, if you don’t raise your bid, you still win the domain name, because there doesn’t actually seem to be any reserve at all for any domain name…

What happens if Drop.com.au sets the “Reserve Price” to $100,000 ?

Guess who gets the domain then, instead, if “Reserve” is not met….

Don’t forget, auDA endorse this Registrar to run their own private monopoly expired domain auction. They’ve done nothing about it since 2020.
