This article on the ABC Australia website caught my attention today.
It turns out that certain members of the One Nation political party here in Australia, thought it would be a good digital strategy to register a batch of domain names relating to the upcoming Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum as a pre-emptive strike to garnish website traffic to their own site/s.
.AU Domain Administration (auDA), on the other hand, did not seem to agree it was a good strategy and suspended a large number of the domains based on them not complying with auDA’s name registration policy.
Certain people at One Nation thought they were being clever, and in some ways they were, if only they were playing within the rules it would have been a viable traffic tactic.
Do your research and know the rules, in this case auDA Policy, before registering a bunch of domains that you may end up losing. If you can’t understand the rules, reach out to a tech friend you may know, or you can engage DBR Domain Brokerage to walk you through domain name brand protection.
